TSIA2 math practice
The TSIA2 Mathematics test has 20 multiple-choice questions in four content areas, at the level of high school Algebra II. A CRC score of 950 or higher is college ready.
| Questions | 20 in one sitting |
|---|---|
| Content areas | Quantitative 6, Algebraic 7, Geometric 3, Statistical 4 |
| College ready in Mathematics | 950 or higher, or a Diagnostic level of 6 |
| Calculator | Pop-up on some questions; none of your own |
What each area asks
- Quantitative Reasoning (6): percent change, proportions, unit rates and prices, comparing values such as √50 and 7.1, and writing or reading a linear expression in context.
- Algebraic Reasoning (7): solving linear equations, inequalities and systems, evaluating functions, factoring and solving quadratics, exponential growth and decay, and radical and rational equations.
- Geometric and Spatial Reasoning (3): unit conversions, area and volume, transformations and similar figures, and the Pythagorean theorem and trigonometric ratios.
- Probabilistic and Statistical Reasoning (4): probability and complements, mean, median and spread, two-way tables, and reading scatterplots and graphs.
How to win points
Algebraic Reasoning carries the most questions, so start there if it is your weak spot. Work every question on paper, check a solution in the original equation, and read what the question asks for before you answer: the value of x, or the value of 2x + 1.
If you score below 950
You move on to the Mathematics Diagnostic Test: 48 questions, 12 from each content area. A Diagnostic level of 6 also meets the benchmark, and the score report shows Basic, Proficient or Advanced in each area.
