The seven academic sections

  • Mathematics: fractions, decimals, percents, ratios and proportions, conversions, Roman numerals and military time.
  • Reading Comprehension: main ideas, details, inferences, word meaning and fact or opinion in short passages.
  • Vocabulary: general and health-care words, often read in a sentence.
  • Grammar: agreement, pronouns, verb forms, commonly confused words and punctuation.
  • Anatomy and Physiology: the body's structures and how its systems work.
  • Biology: cells, energy, DNA and genetics, and the scientific method.
  • Chemistry: atoms, the periodic table, bonding, reactions, moles and pH.

Check your school's list first

Programs choose different sections. One may ask for Math, Reading, Vocabulary and A&P; another adds Grammar, Biology or Chemistry. Read your program's admission page, then study only what it asks for.
