Rules that answer the most questions

  • Cross out the phrase between a subject and its verb: “The box of gloves is”, not “are”.
  • With “neither ... nor”, the verb agrees with the nearer subject.
  • After a preposition, use an object pronoun: “between you and me”.
  • Use fewer for things you count and less for amounts.
  • Never join two complete sentences with a comma alone.
