How the cumulative score works

Add the scores of the sections your program counts and divide by how many there are. Four sections at 80, 76, 90 and 84 add to 330, and 330 divided by 4 is 82.5%.

Many programs also set a minimum for single sections. A high average does not make up for a section below its own minimum, so fix that section first.

What programs ask for

Each nursing program picks its sections and sets its own minimums. These are the figures five programs publish.

Questions people ask

How is the HESI A2 cumulative score calculated?

It is the average of the section scores your program counts. Four sections at 80, 76, 90 and 84 give 82.5%. A section your program does not count does not change it.

What is a passing HESI A2 score?

There is no single passing score. Each nursing program sets its own. The University of Arizona's MS-MEPN program asks for a 75% average across four sections, and St. Charles Community College asks for 75% in each of four sections for its ADN program.

Can one low section keep me out?

Yes, where a program sets a minimum for a section. Lamar State College Orange asks for a 75 composite and also 80 in Reading, 75 in Math and 75 in Anatomy and Physiology for its ADN program.

Which HESI A2 sections count toward my score?

Only the ones your program requires. Programs choose from Math, Reading, Vocabulary, Grammar, Anatomy and Physiology, Biology and Chemistry, so check your program's admission page first.
