CELPIP for Express Entry
Express Entry accepts CELPIP-General for English. Your CELPIP level in each skill is your CLB level.
| Federal Skilled Worker | At least CLB 7 in all four skills |
|---|---|
| Canadian Experience Class | CLB 7 for TEER 0 or 1 jobs, CLB 5 for TEER 2 or 3 |
| Federal Skilled Trades | CLB 5 Speaking and Listening, CLB 4 Reading and Writing |
| Test | CELPIP-General (the LS version is for citizenship) |
| Results | Must be less than two years old when you create your profile and when you apply |
Higher levels add points
Meeting the minimum gets you into the pool. In the Comprehensive Ranking System, each skill earns more points as it rises, so moving from 8 to 9 in a skill can lift your score. Work out which skill is cheapest to raise: usually the one with the most room.
Plan the timing
Results must still be valid when you apply. If your profile could sit in the pool for months, check the date on your score report before you book.

Questions people ask
What CELPIP score do I need for Express Entry?
For the Federal Skilled Worker Program, at least 7 in every skill. Other programs differ: check IRCC's language requirements page for yours.
Is CELPIP accepted for Canadian PR?
Yes. IRCC accepts CELPIP-General for English for permanent residence through Express Entry.
Which is easier, CELPIP or IELTS?
Neither is easier for everyone. CELPIP is all on a computer with Canadian, everyday contexts and a recorded speaking test; some people find that more familiar. Try the free diagnostic to see how the format suits you.
