True, false or cannot say?
Passage 1 of 8
Flexible start times
From June, staff at a call centre may start at any time between 07:30 and 10:00, provided they work their contracted hours. Team leaders must start by 08:30. In a trial on one floor last year, the share of calls answered within a minute rose from 71% to 78%. The company plans to extend the scheme to its second site in the autumn.
1From June, a member of staff who is not a team leader may start at 09:45 if they work their contracted hours.
2Team leaders may start at 10:00.
3Flexible start times caused more calls to be answered within a minute.
4The scheme will reach the second site in the autumn.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between false and cannot say?
False means the passage contradicts the statement. Cannot say means the passage does not give enough to decide. Missing information is cannot say, never false.
Can I use what I already know?
No. Judge every statement on the passage alone, even when you know the topic well.
What about opinions in the passage?
If the passage says a manager believes something, it is true that the manager believes it. Whether the belief is right is usually cannot say.
Do “some”, “most” and “only” matter?
Yes. Most means more than half. Only sets a requirement, not a guarantee. Small words decide many statements.
Which tests use true, false or cannot say?
Many graduate verbal reasoning tests, including the Civil Service verbal test and several SHL-style tests. Check the format named in your invitation.

How we work this out
What it does
Eight workplace passages. Judge each statement, then see the words that decide it.
Eight original passages written in the style of graduate verbal reasoning tests: short workplace texts with figures, rules, plans and opinions, and three or four statements about each.
Method
- Each statement is keyed by one rule. True: the passage states it, or it follows from the passage with no outside knowledge. False: the passage contradicts it. Cannot say: the passage does neither.
- Every key names the words in the passage that decide it, and every key was solved again, blind, by an independent reviewer.
- Your answers stay hidden until you check the whole passage, so one explanation never gives away another.
